Shocked by Dustmite Video

My wife was shocked to see the dustmite video. She asked me whether changing our new pillows, mattress protector really helps. How about the mattress itself? I could not answer her. Don't tell me I need to hire a pestbuster? It can't be that exaggerating right? But can the pestbusters really sucked out the dustmites? I'm still trying to get and talk to my friend who has the dustmite video.

Dustmites Under Microscope

I chatted with an old friend last night. She did a vacuum cleaning on her mattress using Rainbow Cleaning System. She obtained a sample of dirty water from the machine and put it under a microscope. I could not believe my eyes. Here is the video:

Asthma

I wonder what other measures should I take to minimise dustmites in my home. I have a normal vacuum cleaner at home. I'm not sure whether dustmites will be sucked in. Anyway, I read this. It catches my attention since my wife has asthma. "If you have asthma, high concentrations of dust mite residue can trigger frequent and severe asthma signs and symptoms such as lung congestion, wheezing and shortness of breath. You may be especially prone to asthma attacks at night, when you're lounging on a mite-infested sofa or sleeping in a mite-infested bed".

Mattress, pillows, bolsters

I bought new pillows and bolsters with anti-dustmite. In addition, I bought mattress, pillow and bolster protectors. Hope this will reduce the amount of dustmites on my bed. As for my baby, perhaps I will ask my mum-in-law to put his pillows, bolsters and mattress in the sun tommorrow.

Concerns for my 6-mth old baby

I surfed the Internet about dustmites and realised that my own baby is at high risk daily. Read this "Some estimate that 10% of a two-year-old pillow's weight can be made up of dust mites and their droppings." I began to wonder the pillows and bolsters my Aiman is sleeping with every night. It seems that when we sleep on our pillow, we shed a lot of dead skin cells (act as food for dustmites??), humidity since we perspire and there is vapour in our breath and our body is warm (a perfect place for dustmites).

I wonder how many millions dustmites are on my pillows, bolster, mattress...

Sudden Interest in Dustmites

I saw a few articles on dustmites in my school. This created an interest in me to want to find out more about dustmites. One thing that captures my attention is the harmful effects of dustmites. You see...i have a 6-month old baby and I am very concern about his surroundings. Check this out..."house dust mite allergen that is the most common contributor to allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic eczema". I tried reading further..."it is the fecal dropping of the dust mites, as well as their broken-up exoskeletons which contain the offending antigen. This allergenic material is actually an enzyme that is used to digest their food". I never knew that house dustmites can be so powerful to harm human beings.
